Yahoo have finally released the long awaited ‘Search Pad’ tool which helps track user habits and improve the search experience. This essentially is supposed to help reduce the amount of bookmarks you need and speed up the whole search process.
The search pad appears on the left hand side of the page and gives different options for what kind of results you want in the SERPs. For example, academic searches from someone over a prolonged period will result in better options being offered. There is also an option to drag and drop text and images into selected parts of the search pad for future reference and a sort of digital note pad experience.
The new tool will appeal to researchers who can quickly access data they have just found after a lengthy trawl across many sites, without the need to multi task across other applications like MS Word or other text storage software.
Yahoo reckon the search pad, which we see as a more of an advanced version of Google’s SideWiki, will also help shoppers bookmark pages for a search for a new product. They can do some searching, then access the results, then when they purchase just empty the search pad. Seems to be a good tool, let’s see how the public accept it.
