New Google Layout Good for SEO Industry?

For many website marketing companies and small business owners, checking your main results across the websites you run is a daily occurrence. When you finally get that ranking in the top positions it’s pretty easy to see straight off where you are (with regards to a numbered position).

The new Google layout launched across the UK in the last few days has changed very little at first glance. The main changes we have noticed are the introduction of the Javascript menu items on the left hand side of the web page, and the fact that the main links still remain on the top of the page (the options for news, blogs, images, maps etc).

One thing that appears to missing though is the numbered results. In the past there was always a note of the page numbers that you were viewing. If on page 5, then you are looking at results 41-50, but that is not so clear now. So when a novice is browsing the web to see where their website is ranked for the all important key phrases, looking down to the 3rd, 4th and 5th pages would be a little confusing. It would require a good deal of effort to work out you numbered ranking, something that is strange to be missing from the new layout as far as we are concerned.

Every website you browse for shopping purposes will always have a number at the top of the results- showing you the placements of the products on view. Other search engines do this in their results, and so did Google in the past. We think it won’t be long before we see a return of the numbered labels above the SERP’S (search engine results pages).
