As the World turns to online, cloud based applications for more and more office programs, Google and Microsoft have inevitably come to blows. The MS Office 2010 suite is now available, and the Seattle based firm are pushing heavily in marketing terms for customers to upgrade their products.
Google Docs is seen as the modern solution to the office dilemma that many of us are faced with. Being able to access and amend information whilst on the move meant that unless you had the relevant program on the operating system you were using, you could not access work that had been saved. Google Docs takes away this problem by offering a web based solution, and this is eating into the sales revenues generated by Microsoft.
This problem is only amplified by the fact that collaboration is vital to the continuation of the technology sharing, namely the Microsoft programs being accessible via Google Docs. This is surely going to be under scrutiny; especially since Tuesday, when Matthew Glotzbach of Google’s Enterprise Division encouraged MS Office users not to upgrade to the new 2010 version.
He said that Google Docs offered a better solution, something that has angered Alex Payne of Microsoft. He argues that users cannot use both Office applications and Google Docs in a seamless manor, due to the limitations of the online solution from Google. He went on to add that there was a very long list of problems when importing elements such as charts and graphs, something which meant that serious Office users would still need to upgrade to te newer release.
