SEO Submission

Part of SEO that webmasters generally recognise, is the initial process of submitting the website URL to various other sites. There are many search engines on the Internet, and some of them offer a submission service that will initiate the indexing process. This basic element of SEO if not really needed for Google, as this engine will find any site that has a presence and then decide whether to index the contents.

The SEO submissions that are recommended are the social networking sites, article sites, blogs and Internet directories that dominate the places to find information about business. Although not always phrased as ‘SEO Submission’, adding sites to these places are essentially a way to submit a URL to a page, where it can be found by either potential customers, search engine robots (for link building  purposes), or ideally both.

Technorati is a good example, with a common format for the submission of sites (in this example just blog content sites). The process goes as follows:

  • Create a profile with a username and some contact info
  • Validate the email you are sent
  • Submit a URL for consideration
  • Add a ‘claim token’ to a blog post to prove the blog ownership
  • Wait for a review (done manually in a day or two normally) before the submission is accepted
  • Try to promote the submitted site with relevant tags and a good blurb

This is about as long as it will take [time wise] when employing this type of SEO submission, and the results are that the site which is posted will get greater exposure through the Technorati traffic, and help boost your own rankings through increased link popularity.

The various software that can be bought to apply these kind of profiles, and also the article submissions, should be approached with caution. Again having looked at the available products a few days ago, we discovered that they still offer a very mixed bag when it comes to quality. The majority of the SEO submission sites that will function with these are the lesser popular choices, as the more commonly preferred options (like Ezine Articles, DMOZ and Facebook) won’t allow anything other than a manual entry.

The kind of sites we like to promote as being genuinely good for submitting a business URL are the good local directories such as Free Index, Gumtree and Viva Street. The ones we use come in the form of social networking platforms, local service directories and article sites (like ArticlesBase and Ezine Articles). There are also chances to submit SEO helping news articles in the free press release network.
