With so many small business looking for a cheap way to get up the results on search engines, it’s no surprise that people look for a SEO Course to undertake. The idea of filling in the times when sales are slow, or there is a few hours spare at night, and using this to improve your website is appealing for obvious reasons.
One thing that will become very clear straight away is that there are limited options available for SEO Courses in the UK. This is mainly due to the fact that search engine optimisation is no set science, and is still in its infancy as a marketing technique. Also, because the major search providers are constantly changing the techniques they employ for SEO, it’s a risky business when trying to offer a SEO Course. Imagine when you teach a class full of people paying you hundreds of pounds for a training course, and you concentrate a large section on getting the Meta keywords right. Then a few days later, Matt Cutts from Google announces that Google robots actually don’t apply any weighting to the Meta keywords whatsoever! In fact they never have done! I can imagine there would be a few customers going for a refund.
That is the whole point about training courses for SEO, the subject matter is so varied and so new, it would be very difficult to implement a great campaign without being a full time optimiser. We for example, spend 10 hours a week each just reading up on new and existing methodology, so lifelong learning is paramount. It will certainly come down to whether the keywords you are aiming for are popular, as it would be possible for a small business with a niche service to get to number one positions after a simple SEO Course. Take an e-commerce behemoth like electronics or appliance industries, and then it becomes a full time job and more.
So if you still want to go for a SEO Course of learning, what’s the best option? Well when we were starting out in SEO we visited a company in the Midlands, and paid £400 each for the course. It told us nothing we couldn’t or hadn’t already found on the internet. The best option is to get the basics from sites like ours; we offer all that is needed to make a good go of it if you are aiming for a key phrase that generates less than 500 searches a month. Any more than this please call and we offer one to one training or reasonably priced SEO services.
