If you are a novice at SEO, or if you employ a company to handle your internet marketing for you, then you may have heard of and seen SEO Articles. When we first started out in this industry over 10 years ago, we too were a bit baffled by people who spent hours and hours writing or paying people to generate articles for their website/s. But unless you already know, this is now an essential part of optimising your web pages for good rankings on the search engines.

Because SEO is becoming more of a science now that there are so many companies attempting it, articles have become the subject of a little craze, the last few years has seen a huge increase in article sites and content services. This is because the first few sites that really started to concentrate on SEO Articles were beginning to perform very well in the organic results. They had masses of content and kept it away from customers by feeding links from the article pages back to the content pages, meaning the anchor text gave their landing pages great page rank levels. In fact many an SEO firm has based their whole success on just producing this sort of content for sites, pushing them up in a relatively short space of time for the target keywords.

A few years down the line now, and we are seeing some negative effects of article submission sites, mainly the ultimately superior performance of the actual SEO Article sites as appose to the web pages about which they are talking. For example, John who sells Cheap Toys spent 4 weeks writing articles for a top article site ‘Ezine Articles’. This was back in 2007 and all 45 top quality well structured pieces of script are now sat on that website with a decent page rank and good results on Google. Problem is, when people search for cheap toys they appear in the rankings above him! And even worse, when they click through to that page where the article was posted, it is plastered with Google Ads which are dominated by his competitors, who use pay per click. Only if the visitor actually reads the article and goes to the bottom of the page does he/she have the potential to click through to John’s online shop.

So we think the truth about article submissions is pretty easy as a concept. By all means submit as much new content in the form of SEO Articles to the web;  just make sure it’s your site and not someone else’s!!
