Internet SEO

Still very new to businesses across the country is the phrase Internet SEO. This stands for Internet Search Engine Optimisation, which is the process of improving organic rankings with search providers like Google, Bing and Yahoo. When we say ‘organic, that means the natural listings and not sponsored results, otherwise known as Pay Per Click (PPC).

It is still a common myth that results are increased by the amount of clicks you get to your site. A new client of ours recently announced he used to click on Google through to his web page for an hour a day, in a vain attempt to improve his rankings. This not the case as the search engines know that whether a searcher clicks or not has no linear relation to the relevance of your site. For example, you may have the best content on the internet for your product, and you may be at number one on Google, but if nobody wants that product or your Meta information is poor, then people may not click through to your web page. So you could remain number one and get less clicks than the 3rd placed site, who has a better ‘blurb’ to draw in potential customers.

So what are the criteria for a well optimised site? And what do you have to do to achieve this? Well SEO is not something that is engraved in stone; it is a science that is a blend of different techniques coming together. You will see many Internet SEO firms describing their services as SEO campaigns, and that is the best way to describe it. Just like a politician would have a complete campaign; leafleting, appearances on the street, TV exposure, website information etc, it is similar with a campaign for SEO. There is no magic fix with one set technique; Internet SEO is a mixture of many facets, each in their own right as important as the other. Yes some aspects take much more time, but generally speaking there is no getting away from performing each and every one of these tasks to be successful.

Internet SEO is something that can make or break a business in today’s marketing mix. Gone are the days where the competition was low and you could just advertise on search engines and convert easily to sales. Conversion rates have lowered over time, and this means simple PPC is not always viable. Investing in Internet SEO will give your company a presence online that will improve your long term chances of competing and performing on the web. If maintained properly this could prove one of the best investments you will make.
