Are Sheffield firms competing online?
As one of the largest business districts in the UK, Sheffield has a reputation for a large population and a growing business base. There is a buzz about Sheffield when it comes to sports, enterprise, culture and shopping. Things are changing, albeit a little slower than planned due to the recent hold on City centre developments.
So where do we stand online? Since ‘E Buyer’ moved a bit further north, whats left online in Sheffield? And are we working actively to put ourselves on the map for e-commerce and web based services?
Well we don’t really stand out, there are quite a few reasons why… Firstly where there is money there are entrepreneurs, and because of the lack of investment in the past decade it has meant we are a little behind. There have been so many grants around for e-commerce and website based firms, we are not sure that in Sheffield we have taken advantage of this.
There seems to be an awful lot of companies online who deal with local firms in the Sheffield area, almost as though we look after ourselves. We at SEOClock are an example, choosing not to work further afield, despite the ease of this with the Internet. The fact is that expanding across the UK and into Europe is so much more straight forward than times gone by, and surely Sheffield is well placed to move in this direction.
In the coming decade there will be an even bigger shift in how business is done; trade is more transparent all the time and the barriers just keep coming down. We can’t imagine that Sheffield companies will be left behind, as Sheffield has all the resources and impetus to be a major economic player on the European scene. Hopefully the digital age will see Sheffield a part of the movement instead of being associated with the obsolete industries of old.
